I have been a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon now for over 25 years and like everyone have seen an explosion of adds on the internet as well as multiple explanations of procedures so that patients come into the office already “experts” on the procedure that they are seeking.
Unfortunately they have gathered a lot of information so they know the terms but have no experience to how and when that information may apply.
Many patients come in with fixed ideas of how they want something treated based on their reading when in point of fact they are not good candidates for that operation and would get a better result with a different procedure.
Within this mix they have frequently seen surgeons who are willing to do what they want which just adds to the confusion when they see someone who has a lot of experience and is being totally honest with them and telling them they are not a good candidate for the procedure they are seeking.
A Breast Augmentation is just not an operation to make the breasts larger that can obtain equal results through whatever approach and whatever sized implant. Poor results leading to more operations are the result of poorly planned surgery when the surgeons desire to make the patient happy overcomes his judgment on what is the best procedure for the patient. Unfortunately this many times is fueled by the surgeons desire to preserve his income.
It is a Buyer Beware market and any patient seeking a procedure should listen very carefully to her surgeon and make certain that first and foremost he has her interests at heart and not the bottom line. If you’re interested in learning more about your breast augmentation options, call our office in Brea at (310)284-8384 or our office in Beverly Hills at (714)671-3033.
